Be Your Own Boss With A Passive Income Blog

There are many ways that you can do affiliate marketing. All of them are pretty viable. But the one that I’m going to talk about today specifically is building your own passive income blog.

For this type of affiliate marketing, there is a little bit of an upfront cost. You’re going to need web hosting, a domain for your website, and some training so that you can get it right the first time.

So let’s get into the individual steps you’re going to need to take start building your passive income blog today and start on the path to being Your Own Boss.

The best thing about affiliate marketing is you don’t necessarily have to just work from home. Anywhere that you can take your smartphone or your laptop that can be your office.

Because you don’t have to worry about inventories or shipping products or dealing with customers. You just have to worry about getting the traffic.

And the first step you need to take to get that traffic is to pick an affiliate marketing niche.

Step 1: Find Your Niche

finding a niche can be a pretty big challenge for a lot of brand new affiliate marketers.

You want to work from home, You Want To Be Your Own Boss.

You are just not sure if what you love, what you’re passionate about, is going to translate into the amount of traffic and ultimately profit that you need to make those dreams of self-employment a reality.

The good news is that most niches can be profitable if you approach them in the right way.

So a great place to start is to find something that you are really passionate about and try and crafts your blog around that.

If you can get the traffic then you can monetize it. Monetization is not the hardest part of the entire affiliate marketing equation.

Example Of How To Find A Niche

Let’s look at a quick example of a niche. I’ll choose an evergreen niche like pets.

This is going to be far too competitive and far too broad for a single blogger to really make an impact in.

So what we do is we Niche down into sub-niches.   For this example let’s say our sub-niche is going to be cats.

So now we have a sub Niche.

It’s still too broad.

So we have to go even deeper, we have to pick something in the cat niche that is going to be interesting, helpful to people, and something that people still going to be passionate about.

We break down the cat niche even further and niche all the way down to cat allergies.

This is going to be a pretty big micro-niche, but one that a single blogger can really make their mark in if they put in the time and effort upfront.

So now that you have your niche, cat allergies, you were going to want to craft content around that specific topic.

And you want to find as many keywords and content ideas as you can for that.  To start out I always recommend 30 to 50 articles or pieces of content for a brand new niche blog.

Content to show that you’re serious about your blonde. It shows Google and other search engines that your blog is a real thing and it’s here to stay.

It starts to build your authority and expertise in your particular micro-niche.

But what type of content should you be writing for your passive income blog? You are the boss now, but here are some ideas.

Step 2: Craft Content Around Your Niche

Being your own boss means that you have got to make these decisions. Every decision you make is going to have a direct impact on your home-based online business.

One of the biggest and most important decisions you can make after finding your Niche is deciding exactly what type of content you want to provide for your audience.

It’s really common for new affiliate marketers to go right into writing reviews for products and slamming affiliate links into whatever content they can find.

This is the wrong way to go about crafting your content. The first thing you want your content to be is helpful.

I would argue that the first 10 pieces of content that you write should not have one affiliate link in them.

You might be wondering if I have no affiliate links how am I going to make money.

Simple, you set up specific pieces of content dedicated to those affiliate links.

This type of content is called your money pages. And these are your reviews, or your 10 best remedies for a specific cat allergy, to bring it back to the previous example.

Then you take all your information or content that contains no affiliate links and it’s just helpful useful content and links it to your money pages.

People find your information content and you funnel them into your money pages after you’ve given them some value with the initial content.

And that is really the key to affiliate marketing, at least making affiliate marketing work for you. You need to provide value in your content before you start trying to sell anybody anything.

That’s a great thing to remember when crafting your content. You want to decide beforehand whether this is going to be informational or whether it’s going to be a money page.

Monetizing Your Content

The breakdown between informational content and monetize content should be at least 50/50. It really is as simple as adding affiliate links to your money pages when appropriate.

I would say it should be skewed a little bit more to informational posts. Something along the lines of 60% to 70% informational content and 30% to 40% for monetized money pages.

This will help balance out your passive income blog and help it provide some real value to people coming to your site for that information.

The majority of people that come to your site are not going to purchase anything but you want them to have a good experience while they’re there.

Having page after page of affiliate links is bad for your search engine rankings and it’s bad for your user experience. You are just going to have people coming and bouncing off of your pages.

Step 3: Get The Traffic To Your Content

In order to craft content that people are actually looking for, you need to come up with keywords that will bring in traffic.

There are hundreds of theories about the best ways to get rankings in Google and other search engines. Hundreds of theories about the best way to find keywords for that content.

The problem when it comes to keywords is that there is no single way that does it the best.

A lot of these expensive keyword tools are completely useless, the information they have is an estimation and not worth the bytes of data that is written in.

Another huge problem finding keywords as it’s very difficult for newcomers to kind of grasp the concept and understand which ones are going to be good and which ones are going to be too competitive.

I struggled with this when I first started out.

But it is the keywords that are going to generate traffic for your articles. This traffic is free and very focused because people are actively searching for the topics you are writing about.

And it wasn’t until I started digging into some affiliate marketing training, both free and paid, that I really got a grasp of what to look for in proper keywords.

And how to utilize those keywords to rank my articles. I cannot stress enough how proper training and information is to a new affiliate marketer.

If you really want to be successful with a home-based affiliate marketing business you are going to need to acquire a ton of knowledge on the subject.

Being Your Own Boss Doesn’t Mean Going It Alone

You need to have a plan if you’re going to go into business for yourself. Whether it’s starting a store in the real world or building an affiliate marketing business online.

You’ve got to have a plan.

If your brand new to this business then you’re going to need to get a lot of information and knowledge about affiliate marketing before you really start to build your business.

The good news is there are plenty of places that you can acquire that knowledge that you need to start your home business

And ultimately be your own boss and generate a full-time passive income for yourself.

Getting the proper training really comes down to a choice between time and money.

There are plenty of places to find free training online. A lot of this training is absolutely fantastic but it’s dispersed over a wide area.

So if you’re going the free route you’re going to need to look in a lot of different places for a lot of little specific bits of information and then piece it together yourself.

That’s going to take your time.

If you decide to go the paid route then you’ll have all that information in one place and you won’t have to search around for it so you can just find what you need in the training that you bought and go from there.

That’s going to take some money.

It’s up to you to decide which approach you want to take to learning affiliate marketing.

But you must learn the nuances of affiliate marketing in order to have any chance of being successful.

A lot of times most passive income bloggers give up within their first year. Something along the lines of 95% of all bloggers give up (source).
