What Makes The Wayfair Affiliate Program A Good Alternative To Amazon?

Wayfair is an excellent alternative to Amazon Associates. It has great looking products for just about every room in your house making it easy to promote, but for an affiliate marketer the real draw here is that they offer their affiliate partners some reasonable commissions and cookies so that you can actually make a living through promoting their products.

The Wayfair Affiliate Program Quick Stats

Verdict: Highly Recommended

The Wayfair affiliate program is hosted by The CJ Affiliate Network. You can find the application to join Wayfair affiliate partners right here.

The Wayfair Commission Is Better Than Amazon

I’m going to throw this section about the commission right up front but I want to be clear that the commission is not the end-all be-all of an affiliate program. You need to have products that you’re comfortable promoting anyone to have as long as of adoration tracking cookies you can to get the most out of that affiliate program.

That said the commission is extremely important and it’s one of the main reasons why Wayfair is such a viable alternative to Amazon Associates.

Wayfair offers a 7% Commission on qualifying sales made through your affiliate links. This is a reasonable commission. It’s not a super huge double-digit commission but it works well for the types of products that you are going to be promoting from the Wayfair website.

When Amazon was offering 8% commissions for furniture sales from their website Wayfair was probably an afterthought for most affiliate marketer since you had the biggest online retailer giving you a  good commission.  there was no reason to look elsewhere.

However when that commission gets dropped to 3% and people lose half of their income overnight it becomes a real problem and people start to search for those commissions that are going to get them back up to the levels that they were used to.

Enter Wayfair. It’s not a new affiliate program and it’s still a little bit less of a commission than Amazon is offering at its height but it is a solid alternative that will get you back close to the levels of income that you were used to with Amazon Associates.

It is going to mean a little bit of extra work to get the conversion rate up to where you would expect it to be and that’s just going to come from a familiarity that you build between your audience and Wayfair as a company and as a website.

Once you build that trust between your audience and Wayfair you should have no problem getting a great return on your time that will help alleviate some of the pain caused by Amazon’s tactics.

So Is The Tracking Cookie

The tracking cookie is far superior to the one offered by Amazon Associates. Wayfair gives you a 7-Day tracking Gap in order to make yourself and still get a commission. Amazon’s is somewhere around 20 hours.

So there’s really no comparison between the two. Wayfarers is just that much better. However Wayfarers is not great when you look at it in a vacuum. Ideally you want at least a 30-day tracking cookie to ensure that you catch all the potential commissions that you can.

With only a 7-Day tracking cookie you are going to miss out on some commissions because people are going to take longer than the allotted amount of time to make a decision on some of the higher-priced items offered by Wayfair.

The bottom line here is that it is a step up from the Amazon Associates tracking cookie but it’s still a little bit behind where I would personally like to see it and where I think the tracking cookies should be to be most effective for an affiliate marketer.

Wayfair Has The Products To Promote

I’m not actively working in the furniture or the home furnishings Niche currently so my view of their products is coming from a strictly outsider’s perspective. I view their products as someone looking to buy their products not as someone looking to promote their products.

And what I find is a huge selection of some fantastic looking furniture from The Wayfarer family of brands.

These brands include:

  • Wayfair
  • Joss & Main
  • AllModern
  • Birch Lane
  • Perigold

And that is just the tip of the iceberg Wayfair has millions of items from home furnishings, home décor, housewares, and much more. This gives an affiliate marketer a wide range of products to promote in a large variety of niches.

You will probably only need to promote a fraction of their products for your niche site but it is nice to have the option to expand without bringing in new affiliate partners.

It is so important not to overlook the quality of the product that you’re going to be promoting as an affiliate marketer. It’s not all about commissions or tracking cookies or conversion rates. The only part of the equation that your audience is going to care about is how good the products are that you were promoting to them.

So do your research and make sure that you are comfortable promoting the Wayfarer products in particular but any product in general that you plan to promote for affiliate marketing purposes.

Getting The Most Out Of The Wayfair Partner Program

That brings us to the end of our look at the Wayfair affiliate program. This is a fantastic alternative to Amazon Associates. I think this affiliate program illustrates the need to be flexible in the Brand’s and affiliate programs that you promote.

Six months ago you would have been perfectly happy promoting furniture through Amazon.com and then they crash there affiliate commissions to the point where it’s very difficult to make any type of money from them.

So you have to look for other sources of income and Wayfair is just sitting there waiting for someone to take notice of its great affiliate program. It’s not a brand-new affiliate program it’s been there the whole time it’s just that no one’s needed to look for it, at least in their mind until some drastic changes by Amazon.

You want to try and maximize your affiliate programs as best you can. With Amazon it was easy because it was such a well-known brand and ubiquitous with online shopping.

For Wayfair you might have to help your audience learn who they are with some specific content developed to explain Wayfarers history and backstory in order to make your audience a little more comfortable using their website and  buying their products.

It’s not as daunting as you might think. Once people get comfortable with a website they are typically fine with purchasing products from them but at the start you will most likely see a drop in conversion rate from what you would typically expect from Amazon. But you can quickly overcome that if you have a good report with your audience.

These smaller lesser-known affiliate programs are the way forward. And you always want to have a back-up plan for every part of your business. someone something happens like a drastic reduction and commissions you have a plan to continue your business and continue To Be Your Own Boss.
