What To Look For In A Vitamin and Supplement Partner Program

There are five criteria that I like to look at when deciding on whether or not to use a particular partner program.

These criteria are pretty standard across all blogging niches but sometimes an individual Criterion has more weight for a specific Niche than the other one would.

For example in the vitamins and supplement niches, the product quality is going to be higher on the list than it will be for say the oil painting niche.

You’d want to have great products for up for both of them but for health-related niches they can have a real effect on the well-being of your readers.

Here Are The Five Criteria For Quick Reference

  • Commission
  • Tracking Cookie
  • Product Quality
  • Brand Awareness and Popularity
  • Conversion Rate

The Commission Is Vital

In just about every Niche the commission is the first thing people go to when looking for affiliate programs. And it’s no different for vitamins and supplements.

The commission is incredibly important. There’s no doubt about that. But it is not the absolute definitive factor for choosing a partner program over another one.

You need to balance out all the criteria and find the best ones they’re going to work well for your specific audience.

The good news is these vitamin supplement affiliate programs have some pretty outstanding commission for a lot of them.

Some of the bigger stores like GNC and Vitamin Shoppe have lower commissions because they can. Typically huge popular stores can get away with these tiny commissions because they don’t rely on affiliate marketing for the bulk of their sales.

However, some of these smaller businesses are great for affiliate marketers because they are going to offer you double-digit Commissions in a lot of cases.

So your job as an affiliate marketer takes these great commissions and promote these relatively unknown or smaller merchants and have your readers feel comfortable about spending their money at these places.

Just remember a Great Commission with no conversions means you’re still not going to make any money. So don’t base your affiliate marketing strategy simply on the commissions.

The Tracking Cookie Duration Is Crucial

The tracking cookies another one of those often-overlooked aspects of an affiliate program. However, it is an incredibly important part of the overall package.

The longer the tracking cookie the more conversions are going to get because your readers have more time to make a decision on whether or not they really want to make the purchase.

The longer cookie means that you’ll still get a commission if they take quite a bit of time.

Most of the cookies in the vitamin and supplement affiliate programs that I’ve listed here are 30+ days.

There are a couple that are shorter than the 30-days. These are typically larger and much more popular vendors and it’s just something have to deal with. Amazon has a 20-hour cookie for example.

However, even the 7-Day cookies on some of these partner programs are going to be fine for these particular types of products.

Vitamins and supplements are typically not high ticket items although they do sometimes stretching to the hundreds of dollars depending on how specific is supplement is.

In general, these products run from about $20 to around $75 for a bottle of vitamins or supplements that you’re going to be promoting. The reason I bring up prices because there’s a direct correlation between cookie duration and price.

You want a longer cooking duration for more High ticket items. The reason is that the longer people have to decide on whether or not to purchase an expensive item the better chances you are of getting a commission from it.

To always take a look at the cookie but it’s certainly not the most important part of the affiliate terms. It is something you should take into consideration when crafting your content.

if your particular affiliate program has a shorter duration cookie then you’re going to want to craft your content around more buyer intent keywords so that you get the best chance of making a sale.

Popularity Of The Brand Matters

Popularity of the brand or website that you are going to promote is often overlooked a little bit I think.

The popularity of the brands is going to tie directly into the conversion rate of the affiliate programs that you promote.

This is especially true for vitamins and supplements. Because these products are something that you ingest or take internally, people are going to want to feel very comfortable with the brands and products that they are going to use and the products that you are going to promote.

You were going to find it supplements and vitamins that are from no-name brands are not going to convert as well as popular and well-known brands.

People want to know what they’re putting in their bodies. Brands that are open and upfront about the ingredients that go into their vitamins and supplements are going to be more popular.

Openness along with name recognition goes a long way to upping your conversions and having your audience feel very comfortable using the products that you’re going to promote.

In short, don’t overlook the importance of brand awareness in the vitamins and supplement Niche and indeed in the larger Healthcare niche in general.

Quality Products Are A Must

Product quality is another consideration that you need to be aware of when choosing an affiliate for the vitamins and supplements you intend to promote.

Product quality is really an extension of the brand awareness that I discussed in the previous section.

Product quality for vitamin and supplement partner programs is paramount. It cannot be overstated.

If you recommend a t-shirt and someone doesn’t like it then they just return it and go on about their business.

If you recommend bad supplement products then you have a real chance to make your readers ill.

There is a lot of responsibility in these types of health niches and the products are front and center in that responsibility.

Choose your products wisely and research them thoroughly. Ideally, you want to get a hold of a review copy and decide after scrutinizing the products up close.

Why Conversion Rate Is Important

In my opinion conversion rate is probably the most important aspect of any affiliate program just nudging out commission for the top spot.

This is true in the vitamin and supplements niche as well as the larger Healthcare niche and really any blogging Niche you are going to need great conversions in order to maximize your profit potential.

Conversion rate is simply how many sales you make after you get someone to click on your affiliate link.

For vitamins and supplements, the conversion rate is probably going to be a little bit higher than average because these types of products tend to sell pretty well.

However, you always want to run tests to determine which Affiliates have the best conversion rates for your specific audience.

If your audience likes One supplement brand over the other than you need to find the affiliate program that has that particular brand because it’s going to convert better with your readership.

So This is a balancing act between the conversion rates and the other criteria that you want to look at for partner programs.

A Great Commission with a poor conversion rate is not going to be a good option for your long term.

Vice versa if you have a good conversion rate but the commission is incredibly low, meaning one or 2% oh, then you’re probably going to want to find something else to put in its place.

Many affiliate programs in the vitamin and supplement Niche will give you there conversion rates of all their affiliates.

I would always take these numbers with a grain of salt because it’s in their best interest to give you the best numbers that they have.

It’s not to say that there were fudging the numbers it’s just your audience and the general audience for any particular affiliate program might be very different and that could result in a very different conversion rate.

High conversion rates are what you are after.  The other criteria factor into getting high conversion rates.

Better products are going to give you a better conversion rate. Longer cookie duration will ultimately result in better conversion rates.

But the most important thing to remember about getting high conversion rates from your affiliate partners is to match those partners with the needs and wants of your specific audience.
